A Week with Segreto!

Hi All! One of my favorite shares is showing you all what we have been painting around town. I hope you enjoy as you follow my week!

Segreto Secrets - I Love That Sample, Where Can It Go In My House - Starting a hand-painted mural

I’ve always been obsessed with all the different hand-painted designs we do that are inspired by the hand-screened wallcoverings of today!

Segreto Secrets - I Love That Sample, Where Can It Go In My House - Bird and Tree Mural

Typically more affordable than the wallcovering versions, paint offers a great alternative, and I love that the design can be easily customized as far as colors and subject matter go! You can pick your favorite trees, birds, and flowers!!!

Most of the time we hand paint these patterns on walls. But, in this room designed by Jennifer Martinez, (Jed Goodall: builder) we plastered the walls and ceiling and painted the design on canvas which was later framed. And look at those stunning vintage twin chandeliers from BROWN. I’m in love!

Here is a close up of the panel! Although many companies make stunning wall coverings, by hiring a muralist to paint the artwork you can incorporate exact tones from the room, like we did in this piece of art, pulling the peaches from the rug and teals and soft greens from the chest and drapery fabric. Segreto Secrets - I Love That Sample, Where Can It Go In My House - Metallic Stencil Over Plaster

Although I didn’t shoot the entire room, I wanted to show you a wall in a powder which we plastered and then stenciled a metallic design on top. Unlike stenciling over a flat paint, the paints recede into the plaster unevenly creating such a wonderful elegant effect.

We also completed a home with Cupic Custom Homes and designer Ken Kehoe, who has recently just opened a new showroom in the Houston Design Center. It is amazing and has so many wonderful fabrics and furnishings!  If a designer in Houston you must go!!  They carry the Segreto Designs by Coleman Taylor Textiles!!! The home is located in Memorial and is for sale! In designing finishes for spec homes, we really try to make an impact while staying budget friendly.  You can use these same tips in your own home.

I fell in love with the range hood which is made from roofing materials. Leave it outside a while and it naturally ages! To make an impact without breaking the bank,  finish the island and keep the perimeter plain paint! Start with a different color which pulls other elements in the room like the super fun tile used on the back-splash by Ann Sacks.

It gives some character to this most used cabinetry in the house.  And what a difference it made in this space to create an effect on the island rather than leaving it plain white! A great bang for your buck!

The powder bath is also an important room to address.  The focal wall was dressed in a stunning mirrored tile also by Ann Sacks, so the cabinet and door leading to the room needed to enhance and add impact to the space. Starting with a white primed cabinet and door, we aged and applied patina to both!

The aged finish balances the contemporary tile and hardware, while the gold leaf detail gives shape to the piece and incorporates that little bit of glam to tie it all together!

We added some wood grain to this door and glazed it with grays and a bit of blue.  When you walked though the entrance of this house you see the door so it was a perfect one to make special!

The master bath is also a must!  To enhance this cabinetry we applied a silver leaf detail to the cabinetry.   A small detail which makes a large impact!

Ok….. I had to close with another picture of the powder bath with the pretty flowers!!  Look what a difference a small accent can make in a space!  Oh Goodness Ken!  I love this space!  Where can it go in my house!!
