Part Two–It’s Move-in time!!!

Jul 25, 2011

Remember the home we looked at a couple of blogs ago where Builder Rona Milbauer, owner of Elron Construction, and Designer Julie Dodson were moving furnishings in getting ready for the clients unveiling of their dream home?  It’s amazing how each layer of accessories and fabrics add a whole new dimension to a space. Julie’s inspiration for the home was spurred by the wife’s wonderful purse collection– glamorous, elegant and sophisticated.

Although all the rooms are spectacular, the dining room has to be my favorite!!  The wonderful Venetian glass mirror from Shabby Slips, clean line acrylic lamps and display of crystal glasses really work well with the ultra-mod light fixture from Heights Lights & Things, balancing the traditional with the contemporary.

The scrumptious textures and soft variations of color in the fabrics really make this a room for entertaining.  Julies choice of pairing antique alter sticks from Joyce Horn Antiques with the abstract painting from Laura Rathe give the room such a chic sense.   Although pink or white flowers would have been the expected floral choice for the table, the dash of green adds drama as well as an organic artistic touch to the room. She picked them up from Central Market!!

I may just have to use this stencil we painted on the walls in my home—I love the traditional damask but its oversized scale and dot details again give the finish a fresh, contemporary twist

Although the living room doesn’t have its drapes yet, they are going to be a linen from Lee Jofa with a metallic banding going thru it —the room is really coming together.  You can see her use of pale pinks in the pillows and floral from River Oaks Plant House are a connecting factor throughout the home. Julie’s addition of the sparkly pillow in the center gives the sofa a little different character and brings it to life! The art, originally meant to be one large piece, as well as the stylish cow hide stools are from Vieux Interiors.  The color of these art pieces were perfect for the room and Julie simply fell in love with them—that’s what art is all about!!

Moving into the den there is ample space for guests and family.  The addition of the two small ottomans in front of the coffee table balances the room and offers more seating for overflow guests.  It’s too pretty to sit down—wait a minute…brilliant Julie used indoor-outdoor fabrics in here—what a wonderful way to mix beauty with functionality!! The sofas were made by the Joseph Company and covered in a Maria Flora fabric from Allan Knight in Dallas. The Chairs are upholstered in a Link Textile available at George Cameron Nash. The art  from Laura Rathe ads color and interest and a finishing touch.

The two cabinets that flank the fireplace have been treated with a series of glazes to give a furniture quality.  I really do like the mix of the glass shelves with the wood cabinets–it also gives a bit of the unexpected and keep the shelves lighter looking.

The kitchen is wonderful with its contemporary tile from Master Tile, “Mystery” granite counters, light fixtures and cabinets that we antiqued. Rona picked all the hardware for the home from Morrison and really spends a lot of time selecting them to give the cabinetry a finished look.  Hardware is as important to cabinetry as accessories are to fashion.

Julie describes the study as being masculine and moody-sounds like it comes right out of a romance novel—I love that!!  The light from Circa and the custom table made by C&G, combined with the rug from Creative Flooring all add to the room’s ambiance.  I can see myself curling up with a book in the Niche.  The couch custom built by the Joseph Company was built to fit perfectly in this space!

The girls’ room really came together with the cool addition of the funky pillows and the lamps from Julie’s secret stash. I love the patterned carpet from Creative Flooring.

I just adore upholstered headboards. They are soft and durable, especially when covered in indoor-outdoor fabric!!

The master turned out so dreamy with the mirrors from Shabby Slips flanking the bed. The bedding is a combo of custom and Plush Home. The night stands were made by Solano furniture and were inspired from a coffee table. Julie originally had slated silver lamps for the bedside tables, but when she saw the blue ones at AREA she new those were just right! I hope you enjoyed seeing this Hollywood home!!  I loved the evolution of it all!!
