Christmas Tree-Inspired Holiday Crafts!!!

Dec 19, 2016

I remember when the kids were younger, and we would be busy throughout December making sugar cookies, Christmas ornaments and handmade gifts! Where are those days of getting together and enjoying making memories??? This year, I’m making a bigger effort to have a Christmas craft day with the kids! Here are some fun holiday crafts with a Christmas tree theme that can be done together and enjoyed for years to come!! (Plus, some creative treats and desserts that are perfect for a party!)

Candy Christmas Tree Decor!!!

Segreto Secrets - How to Make Styrofoam Candy Christmas Trees - Holiday Crafts 2016

Last week, I showed you all the lovely decorations my friend Nancy uses to celebrate the holidays, including the amazing candy Christmas trees she creates with her kids. And I wanted to show you exactly how she makes these beauties!!

You’ll need a hot glue gun and glue sticks, various hard candies of your choosing, and some styrofoam cones, which you can find in all sorts of shapes and sizes, usually a 3-inch size of any height will work well. For the best results, you may want to spray paint the styrofoam to match the candies. Nancy also recommends a high-gloss clear acrylic spray paint for the finished product to make sure it lasts for years.

Armed with your candy and your glue gun, all you have to do is go around the entire tree, completely covering the styrofoam with the candies. Spray evenly with the clear acrylic… this will keep the candy from getting sticky and protect the trees so you can use them for future Christmases!

Segreto Secrets - Christmas Tree Crafts - Pasta Decorative Tree

If you’re worried about the longevity of your candy tree, why not make a pasta tree?! Simply glue dried pasta onto the styrofoam base and spray paint any color of your choosing for a monochromatic Christmas decoration!

Segreto Secrets - Christmas Tree Crafts - Tea Themed Tree

I love this idea from Thirsty for Tea to turn your everyday items into decor for the holidays!! They suggest gluing the tea bags to styrofoam, but I think it’d be better to pin them in place so you can keep using your tea during the holidays!! You can also vary up the look with different tea bag designs and colors. This would make the cutest friend gifts with a cute little teacup!!

Segreto Secrets - Christmas Tree Crafts - Holiday Cookie Cutter Lightcatcher for Kids
Source

These lightcatchers are so cute and would be the perfect activity to do with young kids since it seems almost like magic!! Crush up hard candies of various colors by using a food processor, a blender, or a mallet. Lay out metal cookie cutters on a lined baking sheet and spoon the crushed candies into each one (you want them to be about 1/4-inch thick). Your kids will be amazed to see the transformation after just 4 minutes in a 325-degree oven!! You can use these to brighten up a windowsill with a little holiday cheer!

Christmas Tree Treats & Desserts!!!

Segreto Secrets - Christmas Tree Crafts - Chocolate Dipped Cone Trees on Mousse

These are absolute showstoppers! The cups are filled with a chocolate orange mousse and topped with trees created from ice cream cones dipped in dark chocolate and rolled in crushed chocolate candies. Delish!! Grab the full tutorial and the recipe here.

Another beauty using an ice cream cone as the base for the tree!!! These cupcakes are a great way to engage kids in the holiday fun. They can each decorate their own with different candy ornaments of their choosing! Depending on the age of the kids, you may want to pipe the cones for them and give a warning that too many ornaments may cause the tree to topple!

Segreto Secrets - Christmas Tree Crafts - Strawberry Tree Brownie Bites
Source

For a more petite, slightly healthier version, try these christmas tree brownie bites made with a strawberry tree base! It’s the same concept as before, but a fresh strawberry takes the place of a sugar cone.

Hope this gave you a few fun ideas to do with your family this year!  It is putting me in the holiday spirit just writing about it!!
