A Classic Home With Classic Finishes!
This year has certainly been great for real estate in Houston. Another of my favorite clients has put their home up for sale. I spotted these pictures on HAR but this home sold before I could post. Thomas Cervone with Camelot Realty Group obviously did a great job marketing, but you will see this is a beautiful place!
This 5 bedroom home rests on a quarter acre lot and resides in West University Place-a beautiful area of Houston close to down town and the medical center. I was fortunate on this one to work with the homeowner since early construction phases. Built in 2007, we have remained friends ever since!!
If you have the Segreto Book Series-this one is in Segreto Style pages 66-73. Years later this home still remains classic and current. Cindy Witmer was the designer, so there was certainly a dream team on this one!
The entry is really dramatic! I love the floors and the classic lines of the staircase. The majority of the home was plastered in a neutral tone and moldings painted to give a slight contrast to the walls. After countless samples to find that perfect tone, we choose Martin Senour Linen Weave at 50% formula. This warm white is a color that is no longer on their decks. The plaster was custom tinted to blend.
We also applied a glaze over the black painted railings to soften and enhance. I always wrought iron finished rather than sprayed on solid color. Maybe the straight black reminds me of the patio furniture I bought a Sam’s Club when we first got married. I still have that set that I paid $199 for 30 years ago, but for interior pieces they look much more expensive and interesting when finished.
The living room and dining room was one of the few spaces downstairs that a color change was made. Pulling in the cool blues mixed well with the warm neutrals in the rest of the house. This was one of the first times I had seen the mix of chair styles in a dining room and really loved the coziness of it! –Now of course it is all the rage!
The colors are a bit truer in this shot. I wish you could see the inlaid floor design going down the hallway. They were by Custom Floors Unlimited and were magnificent!
Well I went though my old files of pictures we had taken and found a shot! I am going to mix our photos throughout the post as many show the home better–ours are watermarked!!
The living room, adjacent to the dining flows perfectly for entertaining!
The kitchen is just beautiful!! The cool blues which are woven throughout the home show up on the cabinetry, which had been glazed to enhance the homes lean towards French. The island top crafted by Custom Floors Unlimited is constructed from reclaimed timbers.
Across from the sink is a prep area with inlaid reclaimed wood. Used as a chopping block, notice the metal banding detail. The surface is beautiful!
Even the butlers pantry has charm!!!
The breakfast room is charming!! The painting in the back is from local Houston Artist Michelle Y Williams. I have always loved her work–I own a few of hers myself!
The powder bath is quite dramatic!!! We gold leafed the back wall and hand painted a scene on top. I kind of wish we had done this on canvas so she couldn’t have taken this art work with her!
The den, spacious and comfortable is a warm mix of textures. OMGoodness so fun to see she has both Segreto books on her back table.
Here is the room from a different vantage point. The painting of the trees is by Debbie Moseley, and the abstract by Stacy McNair, they both have works of art in Segreto’s Gallery!
The upstairs is just as beautiful as the down. Continuing the plaster into the upstairs hallways, it stops and each of the bedrooms are painted a solid color. Notice the stands under the windows?
This was originally painted one solid color! What interest was created by painting a design and applying a finish on top! I love the power of paint!!!
The master suite is divine and has been published many times! The homeowner calls it her little treehouse! the fabric on the drapes are filled with birds and greenery! We painted the walls Silverpoint from Sherwin-Williams which is one of my favorite blues!
Here is Jerry my head finisher transforming the chandelier to marry perfectly with the rooms décor!
The master has complete his and her baths and closets. Love the three way mirror!
We painted the fronts so when closed the piece looks like custom furniture!
The game room has a connecting media room and bar. I love the old pub vibe here!
This honestly was one of the most difficult finishes I have done. It starts with a paisley stencil and then is coated with a crosshatch technique which reads like linen!
The guest room is just as lovely! Used as a place for her mother to stay, the little sitting area makes it feel like her own apartment! Because there was just one window on the wall with the bed, Cindy creatively draped the wall and created a center headboard from antique shutters! LOVE this idea!!! We were tasked to paint many of the pieces to work with the rooms colorations.
I was honored when the homeowner picked one of my art pieces to rest over the Swedish settee! So Fun!!! I hope you loved turning this home as much as I adored working in it. It is full of life and personality just like the homeowners that built it! I hope you all have a wonderful week.
