Grouping Elements to Make an Art Wall!

Nov 09, 2015

Grouping elements on a wall can create such an impact! Whether you use plates, photographs or DIY projects, it’s the way they are hung which turns a random collection into art!!!

It’s not only the photos themselves that makes this grouping interesting but also the balanced way the black and white matting and frames were coordinated and combined.

For a tennis fan, this is an easy, simple way to create a focal point! This homeowner found vintage rackets on Etsy, but, for a less expensive option, perusing second-hand shops would definitely pay off.  I saw a TV show where the designer replaced the tennis racket strings with mirrored glass! You could create this same effect with croquet mallets and balls–maybe in a sunburst pattern. So fun and easy!!!

This Soho apartment by John Saladino (one of my favs) is a wonderful study in layered textures. Located just off the kitchen, this collection of pewter chargers are stored right on the wall!!!!

It is hard to register, but this is a cozy outdoor vignette!  Yes, this plate art wall can survive the elements!!

You can display pricey antiques or just use inexpensive plates to create a focal wall. Notice in this grouping how the plates have been cut to form a perfect rectangle!!! I had to really study it to see if it was painted canvas or hung art!

Antique cutting boards come in many shapes and sizes and can make wonderful art walls!  The surprise element of a portrait really gives an unexpected punch to this display!!!

I don’t know if you follow the blog Tone on Tone – Loi Thai, the author, is a master at creating wonderful displays that read like art. This picture is from his shop, but I could see this in a kitchen or breakfast room so easily! I love the art mixed with the dinnerware! Give him a visit if you haven’t… you will be hooked!!!

Clare Le Roy from The Little Design Corner (TLDC) is an on-trend property styler who does affordable, yet high quality, interior design in the greater Sydney area. She was challenged by a client to use Ikea for her design. I love the Besta cabinet, but my favorite in this pic is the use of clipboards to create an art wall.  How fun for a kid’s room where you could change out their personal drawings!!! I really enjoy her lifestyle blog, and you might too!

I have always wanted to do a photo wall like this, but I just don’t have the wall space.  Hanging shelves and placing the photos on them, makes it so easy to change pictures and rearrange. I guess this concept is popular around the globe – this was taken in Copenhagen by an interiors photographer Annika Vonholdt.

Look at Charles, my Senior Designer’s husband figuring it all out! It comes with pages that are the same size as the photos and gives you different arrangements to try. You simply tape them on the wall and rearrange until you have arranged to your liking!!!

I have three in line door ways in my small cottage bedroom. Closet, bathroom and other is the enter/exit door. I finally figured how to decorate the spaces between the doors to make a visual, connected design. I used blue and white desert and dinner plates above the door frames and between the doors. I’m loving it.
