Rose Quartz and Serenity: Color of the Year 2016
For the first time ever, the combination of two colors was chosen as the PANTONE Color of the Year for 2016. A blush pink called Rose Quartz and a soft blue tone called Serenity.
After a ten-year streak of vibrant pop colors, these more subdued hues are a welcome change of pace! According to Pantone’s website, “Rose Quartz is a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure.”
“Serenity is weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times.”
I do love how these shades pair together in fashion. The gown to the right from Delpozo’s Spring 2016 collection really shows how beautiful these colors can be combined.
And as we’re heading into wedding season, I can’t help but imagine how blush pink and soft blue would make a gorgeous palette for a wedding
But how can Rose Quartz and Serenity work in the world of interior design? It’s a tricky combo to get just right, so I turned to Pinterest to find some inspiring rooms using this year’s hot colors!!
They’re, of course, beautiful colors for a nursery room!
A few examples I found played with the brighter versions of these colors, which is a great way to go for a kids’ room!
Or you can go for pure neoclassicism!!! These tones certainly seem to lend themselves to reviving the era of the 18th-century. I was actually given this photo as inspiration for a ceiling we are painting a mural on!!!
But I personally think Rose Quartz and Serenity work best in lighter and more grayed down versions…….
……….especially when they are combined……….
……or in small doses. This Rose Quartz chair and foot stool along with the pillows on the bed add just the right amount of femininity and nostalgia to this well-organized closet by designer Jon Wild. The shirts and butterfly wallpaper incorporate Serenity.
And I’m completely in love with the accent wall in this bathroom by designer Jared Sherman Epps!!! The pop of serenity to this white room adds a dramatic highlight to the room!

Here it’s brought in through simple accents – the curtains and the couch – which help ground the stronger pop colors in this living room.
The combo can even work in kitchens! I love the pair of light fixtures in Serenity and the little touch of Rose Quartz with the stool. The woods and white backdrop really keep it feeling fresh.
Looking at my living room, you might say it had much quieter versions of those tones!!! You can read more about my living room redo here.
Have any of you incorporated Rose Quartz and Serenity into your homes? I’d love to see how!

Skinny Noodle Macaroni and Cheese
Serves 4 at 75 calories each!
Preheat oven to 350. Wash and drain two packages of Skinny Macaroni. Pat down on a paper towel to get all the water out of the centers.
Spray a microwave container with Pam and heat noodles for 1 minute. Spray an oven pan and transfer noodles a bit at a time layering with half a cup of low fat mixed grated cheeses of your choice. Season with sea salt, Italian seasoning and pepper.
Mix three egg whites with a bit of low-fat milk and pour over the top of the dish. Put a sprinkling of freshly grated parmesan cheese over the top. Cover with foil and bake for about 30 minutes.
Hope you all have a wonderful week!

Any suggestions?
