Not Your Mama’s Colored Stoves!

May 31, 2015

One of my favorite kitchen accessories is the colored stove! Though colored appliances are hardly new, today’s generation of hued ranges serve as the crowning jewels in even the most classic kitchens.

In January of 1955, GE, an industry leader in appliances, introduced bright, bold color options to go with its classic white. The Mix and Match lineup included Petal Pink, Canary Yellow, Cadet Blue, Turquoise Green and Woodtone Brown – all popular shades of the decade!

Other appliance companies such as Frigidaire soon followed suit, providing colorful appliance options often coordinated to match an equally colorful kitchen.

At the forefront of chic design came the emergence of  Danish Modern style in the 1960’s. Pastels were replaced with warmer tones, darkened at the edges including Coppertone (1964), Avocado (1966) and Harvest (1968). A definite blast from the past – Can you remember when these were so popular?!

In the following decades, neutrals began to rule the scene of kitchen design, ranging from black onyx to almond and later stainless steel which has seemed to stay the test of time.

Today, colored stoves from world-class companies around the globe have become the focal point in many kitchens! Whether the look you wish to achieve is retro when paired with stainless steel cabinets and counter tops and a fun aqua colored range…

This cream and gold hued range from Wanders is almost too pretty to consider cooking on but it would certainly be beautiful to admire in your home!

French manufacturer, La Cornue, has been creating beautiful stoves and ranges with a dedication to excellence since 1908. In a class of its own, all ranges are made to order and are constructed by a single individual by hand!Featured above in a gorgeous copper, the Grand Palais range adds a pop of personality to this otherwise neutral kitchen! These beauties don’t come cheap – this model will run you more than $50,000!!!

This kitchen designed by Carey Maloney and Hermes Mallea was built around another La Cornue beauty!  This vibrant burgundy Chateau 150 range creates a showstopper statement all of its own.

Priced at a staggering $100,000, the gold plated blue stove includes a built-in vacuum packer, deep fryer, food mixer and USB ports!!

I have really come to appreciate these kitchen gems in so many of the homes which I have devised finishes for. I showcase this kitchen along with many others with jewelry like appliances in Segreto Style.  If you haven’t purchased you can still get your very own copy!!  (click here!)  I hope everyone has a wonderful week and that it quits raining in Houston!  Wish we could send some water California Way!!!!

I absolutely LOVE a colored range. When we were at the conference in Atlanta, one of the parties was hosted at Pirch and they had the most incredible kitchens and they all had colored ranges. The kitchen in the last image is fabulous – you always get it right!!
