A Dramatic Entrance!

Jan 15, 2018

Hi Friends!! I hope that you are having a great start to the new year!!  I am very excited about what 2018 has to bring and and equally happy to share with you today a dramatic new entrance we have created for some super nice clients!

Although it started with their bathroom which is straight down the entrance hall it evolved into so much more!!  Below the wainscoting will be painted a gray tone to complement the mural above. Because the door is almost always open, something dramatic was needed to give it a feeling that their was a painting hung on the back wall!

I love playing I spy with the murals! You can incorporated items on a small scale that mean something to the homeowner?  You think this gentleman went to the University of Texas? Hook’em Horns!

I spy a deer!  One day I am going to have a tone on tone mural painted in Colorado!  I just never get tired of looking at the artwork! But wait!  In this house we did more!

Ok now you can see what I mean! The entryway of the home is long and narrow and leads straight back to the bathroom. It was decided that a painted floor would delineate the space, and give more presence to the entry! So…let’s see how it all evolved.

When we start a floor design, a  vellum paper is applied first, and is where we draw the design, figuring out scale and pattern repeat. We have never been able to reuse a pattern  since each room size is different.  After the homeowner approves the scale Artist Alex, who is a master and laying out patterns begins to work!!

The entire floor is drawn out, then an exacta knife is used to cut out the pattern where the paint will go.

After we applied the paint and the vellum was removed, it was decided to marbelize the inset circles in a dark gray and add a diamond border at each doorway transition.

Here’s the design a bit further along leading into the bathroom.

And in the bathroom!!

You can see we added a border on the outside of the dark line and around the marbleized gray tiles!!

Here is the finished floor from the top of the stairs!!!  I LOVE!!!!  I hope you enjoyed the post today!  It amazes me how each home is different and though decorative painting how each homeowners personal style really is allowed to shine!  Have a wonderful week and think about what random act of kindness you can share with others!  Till next time!!
