A Week With Segreto!!

Jan 25, 2015

Well, I love the new look of the website and blog but we are definitely having technical issues!! Please hang in there.  Our subscribers are not transferring over.  Please re-subscribe by entering your email address on the right, in the box titled ‘Follow by Email’ to insure the stories reach your inbox every Monday morning!  Just takes a second!!

We were in full gear last year doing our best to get everyone’s homes beautiful in time for holidays! Although I’m not Santa, I am so blessed to have so many talented elves working with me to perfect all of our client’s homes — all on the nice list, of course!!

Art, often the finishing touch in a room, provides a source of expression and dictates the mood of a given space, making it both so fun and important to place! This piece, by Segreto artist Christina Graci, is both soft and high energy. It perfectly balances the strength of this yummy purple sofa while relaying the sleek, inviting and sophisticated aesthetic of the room. I think this happy home is ready to ring in the new year!!!

How cool are the doors on this breakfast room breakfront and bar area designed by Patty Hemmingway?! This home, originally built in the 70’s, is getting a dramatic redo; mixing its traditional bones with more contemporary elements. Balancing the geometric pattern with an old world finish is such a fun combination of styles! This mix and match concept is trending in today’s design.

Sorry, guys! Haven’t gotten an after yet. We finished the doors differently than the rest of the piece and it created such a statement piece!

I am obsessing over this counter top detail in the same home! I love your style, designer Patti Hemingway!

Adoring the Gracie wall coverings, this homeowner opted to paint a mural so she could customize her flower, bird and color choices.  Goodchild Builders, who was doing the renovation, called us in for the project!! The walls were first painted in a metallic silver, glazed with a light umber wash and followed by artistry inspired by the homeowner’s favorite color combinations, florals and birds!!  I can’t wait to see this table set! Dreamy!!!

Using softer colors, this rendering was also influenced by the homeowners color and floral choices. We even added bees and a few love birds to the mix. The wonderful part about hand-painting is that you can be totally involved and help customize a unique, one-of-a-kind room!!

Having forgotten to take before pictures, I pulled an image from the internet to show the type of columns this homeowner had. Spiral in shape with a huge seam down the middle, this architectural element was one that the homeowner strongly disliked. Because the columns were structural to the space, removing them would have been an expensive endeavor. We were  able to apply plaster to the columns eliminating the lines, making the homeowner so happy!!

With the columns finished, the furniture can now be moved back in and the rooms decorated for the holidays! The new look to the columns, along with plastering the sheet rock surfaces and glazing the previously white cabinets flanking the fireplace in the living room, really softened the space; creating interest while allowing the rooms to flow together cohesively! P.S. See the fireplace mantle? It also had a busy, painted tile that we plastered over which resulted in a much cleaner look! Designer Nicole Zarr is heading up the efforts to make quite a transformation in this lovely home!

Fun is the only word for this back office ceiling which we did for designer Talbot Cooley!!! Stenciling ceilings adds such unexpected personality to a room and I am loving all of the new geometric designs available.

Crushing on this ceiling we plastered and then stenciled for designer Sarah Eilers.  A contemporary pattern in champagne with gold leaf accents really is such a statement in this master bath.

This pretty piece from our furniture refinishing studio is making its way to a powder bath for future use as the sink basin!

Designer Jennifer Martinez really knows how to create charm in this powder room tucked under the stairs of a 1930’s home! We plastered the walls and added a geometric pattern in a pale metallic atop. The door in the room got its own treatment! With no space for anything more, the original sink basin was skirted and accessorized with the small acrylic table and lamp next to the potty, creating a jewel box room from this tiny space!!

The downspout has always bothered one of our sweet homeowners who works with designer Sarah Eilers! By painting it to match the stone it virtually disappears (unless you know to look)! We do the same thing for light plates, vents and speakers; adding that perfect finishing touch to each room!

With the new year starting, we have already begun working on finishes for some amazing projects booked in 2015!!  This one will be for designer Ohara Davies-Gaetano. From California, she is the designer who did the fab west coast home seen in Veranda which I was so lucky to consult on!

So exciting – a beautiful home and garden magazine based in Hungary, Lakas es Kert, featured a tour of my home! Although the images are from before my most recent renovation, the design suited their topic this month and I couldn’t be happier to have been included! See the entire spread on our press page!!
