Fun Galveston Beach House Tours – Part I
With summer upon us, I thought it would be fun to look at some beach houses, and being in Houston, what better place to look for beach interiors than Galveston! The historic city, best known for the catastrophic 1900 hurricane, has been rebuilt several times since and has more than 30 miles of beaches!!!
John and I recently went down to Galveston as a last-minute getaway for our 29th anniversary!!! We stayed at Hotel Galvez, the historic landmark and treasured beachfront hotel that’s been around since 1911. My grandmother used to stay there!! It’s now owned by Wyndham Hotels, and they’ve done major renovations and added spa facilities in recent years.
We ate at Rudy & Paco, located on the strand, for our anniversary meal – the food was amazing! They specialize in grilled seafood and steak with a South and Central American flavor. I will definitely be back!
Being a chardonnay lover, I tried Meiomi at dinner and really loved it! It was fun to see that the vineyard is really close to where my husband’s father lives. Perhaps it was the wine, but after I came back from our mini vacation, I searched through lots of the Galveston homes on the market (I always find HAR to be a fun way to look at interiors). I found quite a few gems with a wide range of styles I wanted to share with you. Maybe you can pull a bit of beach décor into your own home’s interiors!
They call this home an oasis, and boy, is it ever! This lush two-acre property right in front of the Gulf features a beautifully-appointed Italianate-style house.
You’re greeted with an ocean view and a fab porch!! I can already imagine sipping my morning coffee while surrounded by the sound of waves crashing against the shore!
The winding staircase and white walls take on a clean and minimalist style, offering a lovely contrast to the dark floors and ornate accessories.
Even with the 100-degree weather, this fireplace is enticing! And I love the elaborate mirror with the coral and shell border!!! Great way to bring in the beach vibe without sacrificing the Roman style.
The high ceilings and large footprint make this bedroom feel so grand and open. Definitely a room fit for a princess!!
Quite the contrast to the last home we explored, this abode has a posh contemporary style! And if you’re in the market, the furniture is being sold with the house!! The white furry rug, sleek cabinets and leather furniture set a great backdrop for the bright pops of turquoise and green.
The same color scheme continues in the master suite of this Caribbean resort. The addition of plants and coral brings the tropical feel into the intimate space.
This guest room mixes things up with an orange theme. Notice the fun layering of different graphic patterns – chevron, circles, and rectangles!
Here’s a bath that feels oh-so-beachy! This bathroom does a wonderful job of incorporating different textures and materials into one space, again mixing up shapes.
Now, this is a cool framing idea!!! Acrylic frames have become so popular, and as a lover of Lucite, I’m loving this trend! Letting the wall show through really helps the art pop.
But the best part about this home is the ample patio space!!! And you really can’t beat this view!
Every foot of this beachfront house has been put to great use. Offering so many outdoor seating areas, this wonderful house for entertaining captures the essence of resort-style living!
If ornate European and colorful contemporary aren’t what you expected from a beach house tour, I think this next one may suit the bill… This gorgeous transitional style home keeps to the more quintessential idea of “beach house.” Love the mix of white planked walls and natural wooden elements in this comfy family room!!
The kitchen retains the white walls from the other area, but the brilliant blue island and mosaic backsplash give it such a fun personality! The light fixtures and leathered granite add a touch of an industrial feel.
The master bedroom offers some of the best bay views of the house!!! The porcelain “wood” flooring can handle plenty of wear and tear in a sandy beach house while still offering the elegance of a wooden floor. Notice too how the ceiling harkens back to the kitchen and family room walls!! Lovely!
The built-in daybed and big couch offer perfect sleeping quarters for young kids. What a fun way to accommodate more guests!
Hope you enjoyed touring through these three homes!! Next week, I have a few more Galveston beach houses to show you so stay tuned. Till next week!
