My Perfect Day!

I certainly feel this way about my sweet Mom and I hope my kids will say the same thing about me!  Everyone is different, but the kids and my husband always ask–What would be your perfect Day?   I wake up early and really love my alone time and several cups of coffee before the whole gang wakes up, so breakfast in bed is not for me!!

The Food:

I do think a good Brunch is so much fun!  Having my kids take me out  or even better prepare brunch would be a special treat!!  I  know many of you are not from Houston but if you ever visit -below are a few of my favorites or ones I would like to try!  (Hopefully my kids read the blog-hint hint!) Be sure and call ahead for those spots that do take reservations!!

La Table–Although they have a fine dining on the second floor I really like eating outside on the patio of Marché their more casual restaurant which is reminiscent of a French market place.

Ouisie’s Table-Southern  food with eclectic tendencies, this is always good, always friendly!

Tiny Boxwoods  / Tiny’s No. 5  Open Sundays for Brunch 9-2.  Be prepared to stand in line, but it’s worth the wait!!  One of my favorites is the scrambled eggs with avocado  along with the white wine sangria.  And don’t forget the homemade chocolate chip cookies!! Love the interior of No. 5!

Kitchen 713 –This is one I would like to try–Their theme is “Global Soul. Unpretentious, Unadulterated, Soul Food.”  Sound great!

The Thought:

For me on Mother’s day it is definitely the thought that counts!! A special card, heartfelt is always my favorite gift! Maybe you are artistic and can make it yourself.

Other gifts if they have meaning also are a nice treat!  I am going to save this tip for when my kids become parents- Love these bracelets from pinkandblueco.com for new moms!

The Gift!

Having quiet moments are so special and curling up with an inspirational, funny and thoughtful book is one of my all time treats!! My gift to all of you Mom’s out there is the trilogy of stores from one talented-yes Mom!!!

Mother’s Day Give-A-Way: 3 Heartwarming Reads!!

Some people are just so impressive and this little lady, Kristy Woodson Harvey,  who authors the Blog Design Chic with her lovely mother Beth, certainly falls into that category! Look how cute  this mother and daughter team are.

Segreto Book Club: Slightly South of Simple

Mothers Daughters, Sisters and design!–The perfect Mother’s Day Gift or Mother’s Day Read!!!!

Her first two books were fun, heartfelt, and sentimental.  The kind you stay up all night to finish and think about for weeks. Well this one is remarkably just as good!!!

Caroline Murphy swore she’d never set foot back in the small Southern town of Peachtree Bluff; she was a New York girl born and bred and the worst day of her life was when, in the wake of her father’s death, her mother selfishly forced her to move—during her senior year of high school, no less—back to that hick-infested rat trap where she’d spent her childhood summers. But now that her marriage to a New York high society heir has fallen apart in a very public, very embarrassing fashion, a pregnant Caroline decides to escape the gossip mongers with her nine-year-old daughter and head home to her mother, Ansley.

Ansley has always put her three daughters first, especially when she found out that her late husband, despite what he had always promised, left her with next to nothing. Now the proud owner of a charming waterfront design business and finally standing on her own two feet, Ansley welcomes Caroline and her brood back with open arms. But when her second daughter Sloane, whose military husband is overseas, and youngest daughter and successful actress Emerson join the fray, Ansley begins to feel like the piece of herself she had finally found might be slipping from her grasp. Even more discomfiting, when someone from her past reappears in Ansley’s life, the secret she’s harbored from her daughters their entire lives might finally be forced into the open.

I absolutely loved her first the book Dear Carolina!! I was immediately pulled into this inspirational lyrical piece of Southern fiction by its voice: that of two mothers (birth mother and adoptive mother) writing, in alternating chapters, to baby Carolina. It was so inspirational and heartwarming to me how each mother put her fears and egos aside to play graceful, powerful roles in each other lives – and in that of their daughter. As the mother of three, I was uplifted, charmed, challenged, and sad to come to the last page of this insightful and delightful story.

Dear Carolina was praised as “Southern fiction at its best.”* Now author Kristy Woodson Harvey presents a new novel about what it really means to tell the truth . . .

Lies and Other Acts of Love was just as good!!!  After sixty years of marriage and five daughters, Lynn “Lovey” White knows that all of us, from time to time, need to use our little white lies.

Her granddaughter, Annabelle, on the other hand, is as truthful as they come. She always does the right thing – that is, until she dumps her hedge fund manager fiancé and marries a musician she has known for three days. After all, her grandparents, who fell in love at first sight, have shared a lifetime of happiness, even though her grandfather’s declining health.

But when Annabelle’s world starts to collapse around her, she discovers that nothing about her picture-perfect family is as it seems. And Lovey has to decide whether one more lie will make or break the ones she loves . . .

And then of  course there is her newest release slightly South Of Simple! The book truly brings life to Kristy Woodson Harvey’s vision of Peachtree Bluff and kept me waiting for book number 4!!
