Two Projects With Dodson Interiors-Always Super Cool!

Oct 09, 2017

Hi Friends!! This week has been a super great one for me! I want to share a an amazing new home I have been working on and an article which featured some of our work–both with the talented designer Julie Dodson of Dodson Interiors.

There she is, always smiling even this early in the morning, making rug selections for this magnificent dining room.  Look at the interesting mix of the two chandeliers. Julie has mastered eclectically mixing the old and the new in her design projects. I always am excited to see what she proposes.

On this project we were brought in to paint murals in the kids rooms and a few other things. The first challenge was to come up with something ballet oriented for a thirteen year old girl, which also would fit the sophistication of Julie’s décor. I found this photo from Shabby French For Me in a book review on VINTAGE BY NINA.   Racheal states “The book is a result of the close cooperation between Danish Stylist Nina Hartmann and Swedish photographer Maria-Isabel Hansson. Their work is seen in international interior magazines through the entire world.”

Nina also runs the very successful vintage and antiques shop in Sweden which you also can find online at VINTAGEBYNINA.COM . The above is a photograph of her two story showroom located in a renovated barn!!  And of course I had to order her book-each page is filled with just lovely and beautifully photographed images. Julie was all in using the inspiration concept and we started painting!!!

Because of space and budget, we simplified the design, picking only our favorite elements. A rack was painted and our favorite elements hung on wooden hangers just like the inspiration picture.  How could you not use angel wings?  Segreto artist Jerrold did an amazing job painting the feathers! Its hard to believe they are not real.

He even worked on using paints that have a slight shimmer.

Beautiful don’t you think? And the final reveal………………….

I was so proud and pleased with the final product.  I honestly want him to paint this for me on canvas!

With this beautiful ceiling, it kinda made Julie and I both cringe when we looked up!! Those speakers cans and vents really detract from the beauty of the ceilings natural wood. So……

I had Segreto’s artist Alex come to the rescue matching each eyesore to its surrounding wood magically helping them to disappear!

The only thing we couldn’t paint was the sprinkler caps. It looks so much better!

We didn’t stop there!  All the plugs were blended to go with the marbles they touched!  Great job Alex!!!

Installing fiber optics into the ceiling which emulated the constellations in a night time sky, we were challenged to paint the planets and stardust.

Segreto’s artist Paul, whose passion is building planet models was perfect for the challenge.  This room is both beautiful and educational!

Though the glass doors is a wine room which we plastered.  Well this is a home that I can’t wait to see after the install of furnishings and draperies for sure!

I was so excited to have our work in the above issue of Southern Home! Becoming one of my favorite magazines, it showcases Southern design at its best! This is one of my favorite projects-again with Julie Dodson, so you know its beautiful!!!

This home was featured in Segreto Vignettes in the cabinet, kitchen, bath and beam sections.  It is so fun to see the more of the home here. Look on pages 114-115.

We finished the fireplace and the beams in the den, featured on page 101.

The kitchen is on page 220-221.  It so fun to compare the pics and shots!

The master bedroom is dreamy-Look at that headboard!!!  Well thank you Julie for trusting us with your projects. I love your work and style and excited to share the many more projects we collaborate on! Fall is a coming!  I am anxiously waiting the cooler weather!  Thanks to all of you that stopped by for the sale!  We don’t have a lot left but still some great items!! Segreto is closing down their Boutique and Art Gallery to make way for a new showroom. All is 40% off including some furniture!  Come get your Holiday shopping done early.  Have a great week, I am grateful for each of you!

    Hello Leslie,
Would you mind telling me, what kind of paint is used to paint the plug to match the marble?
I would like to do that in our kitchen.

I was thinking it was so cute that you hung those beautiful tutus and angel wings in the ballerina’s bedroom until I read that they were painted!!! Of course they were. That’s what you do.
    Be still my heart…
    It’s absolutely gorgeous and stunning.

Hi JoLynn! The best thing to do is to show the picture to your upholsterer and they can recreate it. It is so beautiful!! Enjoy your day!

Hi there! Could you please put me in touch with the person(s) who made the headboard? We are currently trying to make one of our own using this photo but have a question about the trim work that frames the headboard. I will leave my email below. Thanks so much!! Beautiful post!!!

Hi Sheena! I think the Josephs Company made it in Houston. I am not sure they would share how to. It was about 10 years ago though. Good luck on your project. I know it will look amazing!!
